About

About Main Street Advisory

Business advisory for trade, service and industrial companies, and the leaders who run them.

The firm

Advisory for the business side of the business.

Main Street Advisory is a business advisory firm based in Atlanta. Most of its work is with contractors, service businesses and manufacturers, with a focus on owner-operated companies. Its clients know their trade. The work is on the business side of it: the numbers, the decisions and the way the company is run.

Owners and leaders call for different reasons. The business may be growing faster than its systems, holding steady while margins slip, or heading toward a sale or succession. Often it simply depends too much on one person. The work is the same in each case: give the leaders reliable facts, a clear structure and the discipline to run the business on its numbers, whatever comes next.

Hands-on, sequenced and led from inside the business.

The work is a leadership shift: from one person carrying the business to a team that runs it on its numbers.

Facts first

The work starts by establishing reliable financial and operating facts. Books built for the tax return rarely answer management questions, so the financial foundation usually comes first.

The business's leaders lead

The owner and management team lead the change and own the decisions. Main Street Advisory guides and coaches them through it, bringing the method, the structure and hands-on support, and everyone the change affects takes part as their role requires.

Sequence over checklist

Work is ordered by where the business stands on The Six Gauges™, the firm's method, not taken from a standard package.

Built to hold

The aim is operating discipline that keeps working after the engagement ends: reporting the team trusts, decisions made at the right level, and a management rhythm that does not route everything through the owner.

Not coaching, and not a single-function fix.

Coaching works on the owner. Bookkeeping, a fractional controller or a single-system implementation works on one function. Main Street Advisory works on how the whole business is run: the finances, the operation, the decision rights and the management rhythm, together, because a problem in one usually starts in another.

When a business mainly needs one of those other services, the firm will say so and point the owner there.

Where the work is concentrated.

Main Street Advisory works across six sectors: Construction & Specialty Trades; Manufacturing; Heavy-Duty Truck, Trailer & Equipment; Automotive Service & Repair; Field & Route Services; and Natural Resources & Marine. Most clients are owner-operated, but fit turns on the situation rather than the ownership structure or the size.

The work suits a business that has become too complex for one person to hold the operating detail, whose leaders can supply timely financial and operating information, and who are willing to stay involved while the changes are put in place.

Based in Atlanta, working nationwide.

Main Street Advisory is based in Atlanta and works with businesses across the United States. It has no physical offices. The work happens on site, remotely or both, depending on what the engagement needs and how much day-to-day change it asks of the team. Where We Work covers the regional focus.

Talk through your situation

Start with a short note about what is happening in your business. The first conversations are at no charge and are spent understanding the situation. A defined scope of work follows only once the fit is clear.
